Cape Columbine Conservancy (CCC) is a voluntary association of environmentally conscious landowners and land-users who choose to cooperatively manage their natural resources in an environmentally sustainable manner without necessarily changing the land-use of their properties.
The vision to establish a conservancy on the West Coast begin gaining traction among several landowners in the Paternoster area. Over time they made several observations of human impact and realize that human pressure on nature would only continue to increase. Realising that individual efforts is not enough for lasting impact and that a collective approach will be more effective to drive meaningful lasting change. With the initiative and leadership of Gustav Bester the Cape Columbine Conservancy was officially established on 15 October 2016.
Human activities are placing increasing pressure on the natural environment, leading to challenges such as:
- Indiscriminative and high-density development in sensitive areas
- Illegal camping and driving on beaches
- Motorcycles, Quad bikes and 4x4 vehicles driving on dunes
- Invasive plans with loss of natural habitat
- Pollution and litter on beeches
- Over harvesting of the coastal belt marine life
A Unified Approach to Conservation
Our Objectives:
Our goal is to develop a strong united voice for conservation and to conserve our environmental and cultural heritage resources.
To gain recognition and support for our aims from the public, business, and the municipal and provincial government.
To actively involve all communities in sustainability issues.
The area of the Conservancy stretches along the coastal region to the North and South of Tietiesbaai Nature reserve. The Southern border is Trekoskraal and the Northern border is Groter Paternoster Nature Reserve.
CCC is a member of the National Association of Conservancies & Stewardship of South Africa (NACSSA) https:/www.nacssa.co.za/
CCC is also registered with Cape Nature as a Conservancy www.capenature.co.za
